The History of Holy Week (1): Palm Sunday – A King Enters in Humility

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week, commemorating Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. This event, described in all four Gospels, is rich in symbolism and fulfilled long-awaited prophecies. Riding on a donkey, Jesus entered the holy city not as a conquering warrior, but as a humble king of peace. Crowds gathered, laying palm branches and cloaks on the road, shouting “Hosanna to the Son of David!” Their cries reflected both hope and misunderstanding. They expected a messianic king who would overthrow Roman rule, not a Savior who would suffer and die.
